My hair started receeding at age 22. By age 30 I had lost most of my hair in the front and thining toward the crown. At first I didn't worry about it very much but as it progressed my self esteem deteriorated. I thought about it several times a day and hated seeing photos of myself. I finally had a hair transplant at 34 and a second proceedure at 35.

I started losing my self confidence in many aspects of life. I felt less "manly". I would also be comparing myself to other men that had more hair. Losing my hair even played a role in the failure of my marriage. My kids would tease me (kids can be cruel), my mom would always bring it up, people who I had not seen in a while would do a double take. I no longer enjoyed looking in the mirror and compensated by growing a beard and longer hair in the back.

Having lived with less than a full head of hair for more than half my life, with the passage of time, I've gotten used to it. That said, I have always wanted to replace what was missing, but was apprehensive about confronting my hair loss, and certainly was uncomfortable talking about it.

My hair started thinning and subsequently coming out starting at the age of 23/24 yrs old. Being a 57 yr. old male I tried every over the counter and late night product that promised me hair. The ball cap and the comb-over was the answer to my problem. I was only fooling myself and the remarks I heard behind my back hurt. If it were a windy day and I didn't have my ball cap unless it was a close walk to my destination, I wouldn't get out of the car. That was how bad it affected me.

Loss of confidence and shyness are plainly at least partly a result of not looking one's best. Losst hair more often than not makes one look less than his best.

I used to be constantly worried about my hair loss. I wore my hair 6 inches long in the front and "swooped across" to cover up my balding areas. It got to the point that I was spending a majority of my time worrying about my hair loss and not about living life. I don't believe HTs are for everyone...however in my case it has made a huge positive difference.
